There are only four days to go until we start broadcasting Meeanjin, and it has been a crazy ride. After starting the year off strong getting organised early and setting up our performers and stallholders we were thrown a major curve ball.
The effects of COVID-19 have been crazy all around the world. But for Meeanjin and our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and performers it had a significant impact. However, the South East Queensland Indigenous Chamber of Commerce (SEQICC) and Jabin Group as hosts and organisers were determined not to let it stop us.
The ability to pull this event together in such a short space of time is a testament to the breadth of knowledge within our community. While this is only one event, we know that it is important in generating income.
Who knows if all our hard work will pay off in the end, I guess only time will tell? But if we can keep at least one Indigenous business from closing during these tough times, then it would have been worth it.
So, if you have time to tune in if only to see one performer please comment, like and share so that we can see your support! You may like to purchase something from our online stallholders….but hey, likes and shares are free so we would be happy with that as well.
The broadcast will be from 10 am – 9 pm Friday 8 May, and 10 am – 5 pm Saturday 9 May. We hope you can join us. Until then stay safe, and fingers crossed we will return stronger and healthier in November.
